Deep Thoughts in Dark Alleys

Lean ’til you topple,
’Twas all in vain;
Umbrellas can’t shield you from this rain.

It pours through the gutter
With its guttural moan
But leaves all your needles in haystacks alone.

Your conscience announcer
Gives out a shout:
“This doesn’t seem fair; no strikes and you’re out!

Park benches left cold,
Knocked out of the fight–
Add it up, double check it; it doesn’t seem right.”

It’s just a spare thought;
You have many more–
You’re often bowled over while op’ning mind’s door.

And being no pinhead
The problem’s compounded;
So many deep thoughts we all thought you had drownded.

You magically vanished
Through depths of black hole,
Which with two others near swallowed your soul

And looking back
At the world now so small
That it’s held in your hands if you hold it at all.

So take in some air
As three fingers seek coal,
Step up to the line and let the world roll.
