Siblings came, I saw a friend, cousins conquered

5:00 came early–too early for some
But they stumbled to the white van
Somnambulant scrambling, ambient ambling
Not yet complaining–not happy–just numb

Rattling down the highway wrapped in a cocoon
All the siblings sleeping, driven by their mum
Ahh!———-Baby bear striving, but barely surviving:
That joker that clipped him’s a loon!

Seven hours later the siblings all come
To the top of a mountain–the camp is in sight
Amid conversation, commit conflagration
While doors are open, “They’re dumb!”

One sister enrolls in the camp
Meanwhile the brother finds a friend
“It’s been too long!” “Two years long gone”
“But you look the same–looking good, champ!”

The two non-camp sisters signal “Let’s go”
(Though they’ve given the brother time to talk)
He hugs his goodbyes, buys good luck with his eyes
“It was good to say more than ‘Hello.'”

Now on to their true destination
Three hours and gate opens wide
Big meal to eat (no meal could beat)
“Now this is what I call a vacation!”

In the hour of darkening sky
We set off fireworks on the hill
‘Cuz they’re all ‘chic’, three cousins shriek:
“Happy Fourth of July!!”

Thank you! I wondered if this would be one of those poems only important to the poet and the few who actually experienced it with him–glad to see you enjoyed it too 🙂
