Simone’s Posies

Simone has a pocket full of posies.
Simone has a whole dress full of posies.
Once in a blue moon
Simone will find a worthy opponent
And give him posies.

Black death
Watching Ratatouille,
And black death
Walking in the dewy night,
And black death
Singing sorrow songs on the banks of a mighty river
Tears pool slowly
In the flow of Simone’s voice,
Tears pool slowly
In the dark shadows that cross and recross
Simone’s posies.

And the blue-moon boy, listening,
Knows that Simone’s posies are pretty posies.
He knows that Simone never got her posies
Out of the ashes at all,
But that they came
Right out of her own life.

The blue-moon boy is quiet
For just this once
Looking at Simone’s posies.
