Kant Touch This

Photo by Claire Anthony

He does what he wants
With philosophical power;
All Immanuel Kants
Bow down and cower.

His power so rare
Comes not from within,
But flows from the hair
On his chinny chin chin.

    Philosophers can be a bit of a trip sometimes- because of all of our inherent needs to question why we are here and our realities, etc. we cannot separate ourselves! Those who dive head first and deeply into these seem to be trimmed at their emotional edges… which is where I think your poem finds humor- the “toughness” of being one that ponders such things… With this your poem has a Vonnegut-like tone, which of course makes me smile. I especially enjoy the last line- referring to the stereotypical bearded philosopher searching for truth….(I suppose)

      Haha, a bit of a trip–I find them sometimes to be total stumbling blocks. 😉 (Philosophers and I don’t always see eye to eye.) Glad you appreciated the tone and found the humor in it–this was written in homage to a philosopher friend of mine (who, of course, has a beard). 🙂
