You can taste the rainbow, but can you hear the rainbow?
Can you diffract out the sounds that make up the white noise?
Red
Can be loud
Firecrackers and fire engines
Can be soft
A tomato bursting in your mouth
Orange
The sound of a satisfied sigh staring at a sunset
The screech of tires around a traffic cone
Yellow
A sip of lemonade
The squeak of a rubber duckie
The unzipping of a jacket on a warm summer’s day
Green
Footfalls on the warm grass
The whirr of the locust as you walk
Blue
The lap of waves on the shore
The wind as it blows the clouds across the sky
Indigo
Rainfall on a tin roof
The sniffle right after a good cry.
Violet
The swish of a royal robe
The laughter of a child as she presents flowers to her mother
And then there is black noise
The types of silence that accentuate the white noise
The silence that shows depth of thought
The quiet brought on by awe
The hush that works its way into every conversation
So that everyone can tune in suddenly on someone saying something awkward

Very colorful and great examples of each color. I love rainbows, and now you’ve put them into words.

Thanks! Colors have always been more than one-dimensional to me. I’m envious of you–the whirring locusts are some of the best lullabies I’ve ever heard 🙂

What a wonderful comment! A poet always tries to be memorable, so if you do think of any of these words later I will be overjoyed 😀
