Breaking the Silence

“I thought I saw you crying.

“Oh… no… it’s just allergies.”

“Sorry for sounding prying,
But I didn’t hear you sneeze.”

“All right, what gave me away?
Is my face all puffy and red?”

“No, no, you look okay
But your feet were made of lead–
You don’t have to share your pain
Unless you think that would help you…”

“Thanks—it’s really hard to explain
Just what I’m going through.”

“Well if you want to talk
Just know I’m always here
We can take a midnight walk–
Your mouth, your heart, my ear.”

If only there were more people out there that paid that much attention and cared that much. Beautiful and touching!

Thank you! It would indeed be wonderful if caring people weren’t so rare, but to care is to be susceptible to grief. Apathy is armor. So glad you enjoyed this! 😀

Thank you! I enjoy your quick snapshot poems as well–they are a little bit like a puzzle and the words are the pieces. When you put them together they make an intricate design 😀

Thank you so much! I think conversation poems lend themselves to a dancing rhythm–it’s a natural word tango. I’m glad the feelings and emotions behind the words came through as well 😀
