Bread and Clutter

Who cleaned out the attic
And held a garage sale, too?
A bargain for an old lamp
That always blocked the view,

A steal for some headphones
That didn’t fit my ears,
An earring from JC Penny,
And baby clothes from Sears.

There’s a faint echo to the room
That wasn’t here before–
Moving about isn’t dangerous;
I can actually see the floor.

The emptiness is oppressive
Like a bounce house with no air;
I race my words to all the corners,
But the fight just isn’t fair.
