And They Ask Why I Can’t Sleep

Wake up to words weighted with meanings
Chirping at my bedside
Dripping from bathroom sink
Echoing from half-shadowed ceiling
Calling from wicker-woven nightstand
Crawling from books beneath drooping dust ruffle
Swimming through drainpipes and gutters
Swirling in slick city streets
Pounding at my door
Humming from banjo hanging tall
Growling from guitar case
Whispering from silent pines
Wafting through wetted breeze
Heaving from my lungs
Plodding from this pencil
Which locks them to pulsing page
Securing them for the stage

This was written for my favorite singer-songwriter/poet/philosopher.

So many words in this big world; so little time to verbalize them. Thank you for choosing these to share. 🙂
