Who’s She?

“The tall girl.”  Here the description stops short,
As if height were the only essential report–
About as useful as “She’s brown-haired”
(But rather height than weight be shared.)

“The interesting girl with beautiful eyes”:
A vague response, but yet more wise.
“She’s pretty and witty and funny and kind.”
“She’s like a fine wine; she’s a win of a find.”

All would be better, more helpful, more apt,
Yet still the description comes hastily capped:
“The tall girl,” a response I still won’t defend,
But how can you neatly sum up a friend?

You hit home on this one–my sister, mom and I have always been summed up, as “the tall one(s)” A very fun poem!

Aw, thanks! I’m sure there are a lot more one-sentence summaries that could be used to describe you three as well (and probably a few that you’d prefer). 🙂
