In Dependence Day

In June I tiptoe to offset the noise
July will bring: a New Year in mid-year—
Explosions loud, we celebrate like boys
When parents leave and there is none to fear.

Amid the wailing sirens of parades
While firecrackers burst upon the lawn
And rockets shriek their jarring serenades
I ponder on the words of brother John,

“The world and its desires pass away”—
And this includes my darling USA…
“The man who does the will of God shall stay
(Though not on Earth) forever and a day.”

I love my country shore to sandy shore;
I love and trust my Savior God still more.

    I was aching/homesick today, so it was really nice to read this just now. Thanks for posting. 🙂
